In possibly the most moronic display of conservative panic since speculations about Spongebob Squarepants and his little pink friend Patrick Star,a group of right wing mothers has launched a campaign against Toys R Us over their selling of a recent issue of the comic book “Life With Archie”,
the cover of which depicts gay character Kevin Keller marrying some other guy!

I personally see the whole gay marriage thing as yet another convenient smokescreen for the world’s real problems — why tackle class issues when you can make yourself look “liberal” by allowing gays to do something which at least 50% of them will regret ? — but outside of that I really don’t care. Let them get married, poor fools. In ten years they’ll be launching a new campaign to have that dubious right taken away. Frankly, my idea of marriage equality would be to make it illegal for straight people as well as gay ones, that way everyone would all be much happier. But back to the hysterical screechings of the loonies at One Million Moms…

“These comic books are sold at the front checkout counters so they are highly visible to employees, managers, customers and children. Unfortunately, children are now being exposed to same-sex marriage in a toy store. This is the last place a parent would expect to be confronted with questions from their children on topics that are too complicated for them to understand. “

This is of course balderdash. If the kid asks, just tell them some idiots want to marry people of the opposite sex, some idiots want to marry people of their own sex, either way it’s an idea they will live to regret. See, not so complicated is it? What is really driving these protests is not concern over kiddies asking awkward questions, but rather the need so many people seem to have to hate on some group or another, and the right wing’s rabid desire to crush anyone who opposes their hate-mongering in any way, especially if they are part of the popular culture industry. Would it be too much to call this clan of pinheads a hate group? Probably not, as the One Million Moms group is a branch of the American Family Association, a group well known for, surprise, surprise, its promotion of homophobia! Apples really don’t fall very far from the tree, do they?

 

In defense of the book John Goldwater, one of the big cheeses at Archie, had this to say…

“We stand by Life with Archie #16. As I’ve said before, Riverdale is a safe, welcoming place that does not judge anyone. It’s an idealized version of America that will hopefully become reality someday. We’re sorry the American Family Association /OneMillionMoms.com feels so negatively about our product, but they have every right to their opinion, just like we have the right to stand by ours. Kevin Keller will forever be a part of Riverdale, and he will live a happy, long life free of prejudice, hate and narrow-minded people.“

 

Er, yes, thank you Martin Luther King. What Goldwater means of course, is that the series’ recent focus on social issues has increased its sales and they will be damned if they let a few loons mess with their bottom line, so to speak. Motive aside, Goldwater and Co are doing the world a favor by keeping the issue on the racks, and the One Million Moms are doing the world a favor by showing everyone what a bunch of lame-brained maggots they are. Why, next thing you know they will be whining about this classic issue of  Betty and Me…

She may have left the political arena, but Sarah Palin’s stupidity is still loose in the world, continuing to build a legend that will ultimately make Dan Quayle look like a great choice for VP. Today we learnt that the poster child for Republican affirmative action was under the impression that decisions regarding the UK’s involvement in “Operation Blood for Oil” were being made not by PM Gordon Brown but by the Queen!

The woman who can’t tell east from west and who was under the impression that the US was an ally of North Korea, was also convinced that Saddam Hussein was the one who ordered the September 11 attacks, and that gay marriage should stay illegal lest the Easter Bunny get hitched to the Trix rabbit!

Apparently once the depth and breadth of Palin’s idiocy became known, the elephant brigade went into action, trying to cram as much knowledge as possible into what can best be described as a brain the size of a thimble, and even though Mama Dumbass was initially a willing pupil, she eventually went into what her tutors referred to as “a catatonic stupor,” a change which was confirmed only when experts from Bellevue were called in!

We have all wondered why boys seem to be at least as smart as girls in real life, yet do so badly in school. The usual explanations range from the merely condescending (“The boyz is lazy” ) to the downright hateful( “The boyz is just stoopid, so let them rot,”) but those of us who don’t buy all the female supremacist hogwash have always suspected there may be an anti-boy bias in the marking.

Well, now we can stop conjecturing — a study by the Centre for Economic Performance at the London School of Economics has just shown that female teachers are giving boys lower marks than they deserve. The study itself was about student perceptions of discrimination, and it found that boys perceived female teachers as giving them lesser marks than merited. This could be put down to paranoia, except that the research backs the boys’ perceptions. Half the classes involved had their paper marked by in-house teachers whoknew who they were dealing with, and the other half  by external examiners who had no idea whose work they were assessing. And wouldn’t you know it, the external examiners gave the boys higher marks than the in-house teachers. I’m sorry to say that the reverse is also true, that male teachers tend to be kinder when marking boys than when marking girls and that obviously isn’t cool, but for every male teacher giving the boys more than they deserve there are three or four female teachers giving the girls more than is their due, and you don’t need to be a mathematics genius to figure out which sex is going to suffer more.

There are other factors of course — a culture that tells boys they are morons can’t be helping any, neither can the lack of male role models in front of those blackboards — but this is one factor which is measurable, and in that sense this bad news is also good news – let’s just hope it doesn’t get buried by the  feminists and their mates in the mainstream media.

From little-known Australian band MaxQ, here we have 1989’s Way of the World, a prescient little ditty about the way we all get screwed over by the psychopaths in charge of this ball of mud. I loved this song when it came out, and the more politically aware I’ve become the more pertinent it seems than back in ’89, a time when most people saw all this talk of evil corporations as the ramblings of a demented hippie.

MaxQ was a short lived group headed by Ollie Olsen and Michael Hutchence of INXS, and even though the single was a minor hit the album tanked and hasn’t been re-released since. So if you like it, get it on YouTube cos the CD is an expensive rarity and iTunes doesn’t seem to carry it — but what can you expect from acorporation that originally gave iPods batteries that died in 18 months and couldn’t be replaced except through the purchase of a new iPod?
